Art From the Heart
If there is a common thread that runs through my work it is that nature is my muse. Nature speaks clearly to me , my studio exhibiting all that I find on a beach walk or on the forest floor. Stones become tools, pods become feet for gourd pots, and bits of nature's fibers are incorporated into hand made paper.

THIS IS A PHOTOGRAPH OF A GOURD AFTER I HAVE ADDED MY HAND TO IT. ABOVE ON THE RIGHT ARE GOURDS IN THE RAW. THEY MUST BE WASHED AND ANY MOLD, WHICH IS A NATURAL OCCURANCE ON THE GOURD AND ALSO ADDS BEAUTIFUL DESIGNS ON THE SURFACE, IS SCRUBBED OFF. THE GOURD IS THEN CUT OPEN, CLEANED OUT AND EITHER STAINED, PAINTED, PYRO-ENGRAVED OR A COMBINATION OF THE ABOVE AND SEALED WITH A CLEAR ACRYLIC FINISH.
BEAUTIFUL, HUH?
PREPARING THE GOURD IS SOMETIMES A TEDIOUS TASK BUT THE END RESULTS ARE QUITE GRATIFYING.
Creativity is.....seeing something that doesn't already exist. You have to find out how to bring it into being
and in that way become a playmate with the universe.
