ABOUT THE ARTIST

Gail Little Smyth

Mixed Media Artist
I have been an artist since I was a child, much to my parents dismay.  In 1975 I began my career as a tapestry weaver and now operate a multi-media studio in Middleboro, MA.  I received my training privately as well as attending Bridgewater State College and the Fuller Museum of Art as well as the Attleboro Museum of Art.
In 1989 my life took me down a path of introspection and self discovery.  During that time I was trained in the healing arts.  I have found that for me embracing the energies and producing artwork are condusive to one another.  Peaceful walks in the forest became an adventure
as nature gifted me with stones, sticks, pods, or perhaps fallen tree bark to be used as tools or become the inspiration for a new piece of work.
I utilize fibre', clay, leather, gourds and other natural materials in my work.
The use of these materials enables me to connect to the primal core etched
into the spirit of all lifeforms.  These elements form the structure of my pieces.  As each piece nears completion it's spirit begins to surface and hold its own energy. I am currently working with gourds, lifecast masks, and mixed media  assemblages using natural and found materials.
Through the creative process I birth pieces that bridge, connect and reveal the physical to the primative and sacred.
